Kuantan-bound lanes on KL-Karak highway diverted for ECRL works until Aug 8

BENTONG: A traffic diversion has been activated for all Kuantan-bound lanes between Km25.75 and Km27.1 of the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway (KLK) until Aug 8.

Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL) said the temporary closure of the stretch was necessary to facilitate the installation of East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) portal beams for a road-under-bridge structure, with works set to be carried out around the clock.

“A diversion route has been activated. The existing three lanes in each direction on the expressway will be maintained through the diversion system to ensure smooth traffic flow.

“Despite the construction activity, the expressway remains open to all motorists through the fully activated diversion route.

“The closure has been approved by the Malaysian Highway Authority.”

MRL said the stretch must be closed for the installation of temporary support structures for the portal beam works.

“Highway users are advised to follow all traffic signs and directions at the site, reduce their speed while travelling through the construction zone and remain vigilant for everyone’s safety.”

An ECRL spokesperson confirmed that the construction at Batu 12, near Gombak, will not require motorists to exit the expressway or use alternative routes when heading towards Kuantan.

The 665km ECRL is set to begin operations in January 2027.
