KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd has clarified that the East Coast Rail Link fare rates circulating on social media are speculative and do not reflect the actual charges.
In a statement today, MRL said ticket fares for the rail network, which is set to begin operations next January, had not been officially announced and were still being refined through discussions with stakeholders.
The company said the process involved agencies such as the Land Public Transport Agency to ensure the fare structure remained reasonable, competitive and user-friendly.
“Therefore, the public is advised not to make assumptions or draw conclusions based on unverified information,” the statement said.
MRL said the official ECRL fare structure would be announced by the Transport Ministry once the evaluation and approval process was completed.
At the same time, the company thanked the public for their enthusiasm and interest in the ECRL project, urging all parties to await official updates through MRL and ministry communication channels.
“God willing, the fares introduced will take into account the interests of the people while offering the best value to consumers,” the statement said.
The 665km ECRL alignment will connect the East Coast states of Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang to Selangor on the West Coast.
Once operational, the ECRL is expected to reduce travel time between Kota Bharu and Gombak to around four hours, compared with approximately seven hours by road.
