KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) will resume on a suitable scale after negotiations with China have been finalised.
He also indicated that the negotiations will take some time.
“At the moment, the government has appointed Tun Daim Zainuddin as the special envoy of the Prime Minister to head the ECRL negotiation with China for a win-win solution. The outcome of the negotiation will be announced when finalised in future.
“If the negotiation is fruitful, the government is confident the ECRL project will continue on an appropriate scale which will benefit the people and save Malaysia from being burdened by huge debts,” he told Dewan Rakyat today.
He was replying to a question by Datuk Seri Dr Ismail Mohamed Said (BN-Kuala Krau) on the latest status of the ECRL project and whether the government would continue with the project. -Bernama
